Historic Spanish Point is proud to host Norma Albertha Winter as our artist in residence. In addition to her vast knowledge of artistic techniques, she has many years of teaching experience with artists of all ages, skills, and abilities.

We welcome you to join Norma for one of her many upcoming art classes.

ABOUT NORMA

Norma Winter studied Visual Arts at American Art School in New York City, and various schools and colleges throughout the United States; including Willoughby Fine Arts, Lakeland Community College, Johnston State College and University of Phoenix. She works in many mediums, including clay, plaster, metal, watercolor, pastels, oils, woodcarving, airbrush, pencil, pen and ink, dyes, lettering, drawing and calligraphy, and has been teaching many of these forms in schools, colleges and in her studio for the past thirty years.

Class Description: 

Learn to draw basic shapes. Recognize basic shapes in objects. Learn to retain and make visible what we are seeing. Recognize light and dark, and cast shadows.

*REQUIRED COURSE MATERIALS:

(Students must provide their own course materials. Materials can be purchased from local art supply stores or big box stores. Specific brands are not necessary.)

Class Description: Learn to draw and paint botanicals from the Butterfly garden or along the lush natural pathways of Historic Spanish Point.

*REQUIRED COURSE MATERIALS:

(Students must provide their own course materials. Materials can be purchased from local art supply stores or big box stores. Specific brands are not necessary.)

  • Sketch Pad
  • 12×14 inch stretched canvas
  • 2 — Acrylic brushes #8 or #10 (one flat, one round)
  • 2B pencil
  • Kneaded Eraser
  • Pink Eraser
  • Basic colors in acrylic paint tubes

Morning Sessions (10am-12pm):

Class Description: Learn to write the written word in Chancery–a historical form of calligraphy. Learn the strokes that form the letters, and combine letters to make words and sentences. We will practice to gain elegance and proper form.

*REQUIRED COURSE MATERIALS:

(Students must provide their own course materials. Materials can be purchased from local art supply stores or big box stores. Specific brands are not necessary.)

  • Marvy 3.5 Calligraphic market (chisel point)
  • Medium nib calligraphy pen (contact instructor if further information is needed)
  • T-square ruler (12, 14 or 18 inches)
  • Two 2B pencils
  • Practice Pad
  • Tracing Pad

Alsketchii Workshop

Available November 2019, December 2019, February 2020, April 2020

Class Description: Learn to draw a smooth continuous line, forming shapes revealed by the subconscious YOU on paper. As you guide your pen along in space you will create free-formed shapes that will fill in with beautiful designs retained subconsciously in your mental storehouse. Surprise yourself!

*REQUIRED COURSE MATERIALS:

(Students must provide their own course materials. Materials can be purchased from local art supply stores or big box stores. Specific brands are not necessary.)

  • Fine point Sharpie marker
  • Smooth surface pen and ink pad, 9×12 inches
  • Watercolors (optional)

Alsketchii Workshops are $60 per workshop for future members. 

Alsketchii Gatherings

Description: Continue using the free-form shapes to explore the subconscious YOU in this fun and rejuvenating atmosphere. These gatherings are not focused on instruction, but rather, on the community experience of creating.

Alsketchii Gatherings require the same materials as Alsketchii Workshops.

Alsketchii Gatherings are $5 for HSP Members ($10 for future members).

Silk Painting

Available December 2019, February 2020, and April 2020

  • Monday, December 2, 2019 | 10:30am-3:30pm (Silk Scarves)

  • Monday, April 27,2020 | 10:30am-3:30pm (Silk Scarves)

Class Description: Learn the gratifying art of painting on silk with dyes. You will learn techniques and tips in creating your own design in abstract or controlled forms. Painting on silk allows the freedom of exploring colors and experiencing the excitement of watching the dyes flow on the silk, similar to watercolor (but a little different). Lessons are designed for all levels of art skills and are taught in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Your work of art will be taken home to wear or display!

Class Description: Learn to draw and paint botanicals from the Butterfly garden or along the lush natural pathways of Historic Spanish Point. *This is a shortened workshop of our Painting class, and covers only the highlights of the full course.

COURSE POLICIES

  • All art classes must be paid in full at the time of enrollment.
  • To obtain the Member rate for any classes, workshops, or gatherings, please call our front desk to register: (941) 966-5214 x 0.
  • Classes are small and intimate, thus allowing for more personalized attention from the instructor. Courses fill up quickly, so please register well in advance.
  • Course materials are required and are the responsibility of the student. Course materials can be purchased at art/craft supply stores and most big-box retailers. Course materials are not included in the cost of the class.
  • Students are expected to attend all parts of the class. If you are unable to attend any part of the course, please contact the instructor as soon as possible.
  • The majority of classes take place in the Art Studio on the 2nd Floor of the historic White Cottage. If you have difficulty navigating stairs, please contact the instructor: (941) 966-5214.
