Join Historic Spanish Point for exciting art exhibitions from local artists this season. Artists will display their work in our Gallery at The Point, located in our Visitor Center. The Gallery is open Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and on Sunday, 12-5 p.m.

All opening receptions are FREE – drinks and light refreshments will be served.

Olwen Hughes

Opening Reception: Thursday, October 24 | 5:30pm – 7:00pm

Exhibition: October 24, 2019 – November 29, 2019

          We invite you to join us on Thursday, October 24 from 5:30-7:00 p.m., for a FREE opening reception to celebrate the life and artistic work of legendary local artist Olwen Hughes. Drinks and light refreshments will be served.
          Ms. Hughes, who passed away at the age of 99 in May of this year, had a multi-faceted career. She worked as an artist for the Leicester Mercury in the United Kingdom for over 30 years and for part of each year she resided in Gulf Gate with her husband Geoffrey. During her time in Sarasota, she was commissioned to capture, in pen and ink, many historical and significant buildings of our community including Warm Mineral Springs, the Old Venice Train Station, Historic Spanish Point, and the Old Federal Building in Sarasota, to name but a few.
         The exhibit runs from October 24-November 29 and is open in Historic Spanish Point’s Visitors Center Gallery, Monday-Saturday from 9 am-5 pm and on Sunday, from 12- pm.

Brooks Tracey

Opening Reception: Wednesday, December 4 | 5:30pm – 7:00pm

Exhibition: December 4, 2019 – January 31, 2020

Please join us on Wednesday, December 4, from 5:30-7 p.m., for an opening reception with local artist and middle school teacher, Brooks Tracey. His artwork brings together traditional artistic practices and innovative technological mediums. Brooks is able to digitally illustrate in his own unique, vivid, and expressive style subject matter that largely revolves around his hometown Sarasota, FL and the state of Florida. His artwork is on display until January 31, 2020.

Emma Bruno

Opening Reception: Wednesday, February 5, 2020 | 5:30pm – 7:00pm

Exhibition: February 5, 2020 – March 27, 2020

Emma Bruno, whose exhibit opens on Wednesday, February 5, from 5:30-7 p.m. Bruno, a Florida native and nature enthusiast, is a local artist who graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design in 2016. Her artwork is a commentary on both the convenience culture and ocean pollution. Her work has been featured in several recent shows and environmental events including a solo exhibition at Art Ovation Hotel in downtown Sarasota. Her artwork will be on display from February 5 through March 27, 2020.

Kim McAninch

Opening Reception: Friday, May 1, 2020 | 5:30pm-7:00pm

Exhibition: May 1, 2020 – June 26, 2020

Please join us on Friday, May 1 through Friday, June 26, 2020 is Kim McAninch. Meet McAninch at the opening on Friday, May 1 from 5:30-7 p.m. Her uniquely painterly style is influenced by her background in fabric, wallpaper, and interior design. She is a member of the National Association of Women Artists and American Women Artists and she currently works in Stony Point, NY, and Siesta Key, FL.

The next Call for Artists to be considered for inclusion in the Artists at the Point Series 2020-2021 will be announced in May 2020.
