Historic Spanish Point has truly spectacular volunteers. Despite the blazing heat, the unpredictable summer rainstorms, and plenty of Florida bugs, our Volunteer Association has been hard at work making sure our 30-acre outdoor museum is ready to accommodate the influx of seasonal visitors heading our way.

This includes the Magic, our replica of John Webb’s boat originally launched around 1900. Historic Spanish Point offers boat tours throughout the year on the Magic, but our maritime volunteer team has docked it for the summer to address some much-needed refurbishments, including a new seat cushion! Improvements also include new custom covers, which will keep the Magic in tip-top condition. Both the cushion and the covers were purchased with resources from the Volunteer Association’s Taste of Spanish Point.

Though we don’t know what happened to the original Magic after Bertha Palmer took ownership of Spanish Point, we know that our replica will remain seaworthy for many generations.

The Magic will return to its moor at the Packing House Dock in August 2018, as well as guided tours on Little Sarasota Bay–all thanks to our dedicated team of voluteers!
